Russia was quick to side with Beijing, arguing that China has the right to take “necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity” amid the “provocation” of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
“The Chinese side has the right to take the necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity with respect to the Taiwan issue,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, while condemning Pelosi’s visit as a “clear provocation” aimed at limiting it to China.
Moscow had previously warned Washington that the trip would put the US on the path to confrontation with China.
