On Monday night on Euronews, Alexandre Rafila was asked about the COVID-19 vaccines that Romania has acquired during the pandemic.

The Minister of Health explained that initially 94 million doses were contracted, the number was reduced to 80 million.

“Actually, 36-37 million doses were purchased, these are the doses that were used. About 7 million doses have been destroyed or will be destroyed in the next period, about 3 million doses are still in warehouses. The amount of almost 29 million doses, for which there was an obligation of Romania to purchase them, was no longer purchased, they are the subject of a legal process with the Pfizer company,” said Rafila.

He noted that there was only the first appearance in court, which gave a new term.

“I hope that eventually we can find a solution, maybe a negotiated solution (…) We have thrown away enough vaccines. Some manufacturers have been extremely fair and sympathetic to requests to purchase the vaccine. Moderna, for example, signed a contract and no longer asked for a purchase,” Alexandru Rafila also stated.
