
The Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted for public discussion a draft emergency resolution on amendments to the Road Traffic Rules, called GEO 195/2002. The project is large-scale, with significant changes related, in particular, to increasing the level of road safety in Romania.
Firstly, a clear procedure has been established for the suspension of the right to drive vehicles for people with psychological unfitness, the proposal is a way to deal with situations like that of the former prefect of Gorju Dan Ilje Morega, who was repeatedly caught behind the wheel, although his license was suspended. In its current form, the Traffic Code stipulates that the driver’s license of a person deemed psychologically unfit to drive a vehicle is revoked by traffic police officers and can be restored only after the termination of the reason for which this measure was taken.
