A teenage girl accidentally killed herself last weekend in Los Angeles during a fight with agents she had disarmed and who were trying to get her firearm back, the sheriff said Monday, AFP reported.

A teenage girl disarmed a Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy and accidentally killed herself while officers tried to retrieve the gun, law enforcement officials said.

A young Hispanic male knocked on the door of the station, the sheriff’s statement said.

After agents opened the door, “the juvenile ran into the hall, grabbed the agent’s gun and took it away,” the sheriff said.

“A fight broke out between the deputies and the girl, who was armed with the officer’s firearm,” he states.

“During the fight, the teenager received gunshot wounds,” the message reads.

Firefighters called to the scene declared death.

An investigation is underway, and initial indications are that the incident is related to a call to sheriff’s deputies regarding a “family disturbance.”

According to News.ro, law enforcement interventions that end in death are “commonplace” in the United States.
