North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a tank unit that invaded Seoul during the 1950-1953 Korean War and called for increased combat training, state media reported on Monday, AFP reported.
Inter-Korean relations are at an all-time low, with Pyongyang earlier this year calling South Korea its “main enemy” and threatening war for any violation of its territory “even by 0.001 millimetre”.
On Sunday, Kim Jong Un visited Seoul’s 105th Ryu Kyong Su Armored Division, the official KCNA news agency said, and state media showed him reviewing plans for what propaganda claims is an attack on South Korea.
“The division was the first to attack Seoul and raise the flag of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the puppet Capitol building,” said KCNA, the news agency of the North Korean dictatorship. This tank unit “performed remarkable feats in numerous battles of the last Liberation War of the Motherland,” the information agency adds.
Technically, the two countries have been at war since 1953, when an armistice rather than a peace treaty ended a three-year armed conflict.
Kim Jong-un supervised the training of the tank unit and said he was “very satisfied” with the level of training of the crews and their “strong desire to destroy the enemy,” KCNA reported.
The leader also called for more “ideological education” to help soldiers “go further in their military training and strengthen their fighting capacity”.
Kim also visited a tank unit canteen and attended soldiers’ dinners at a time when the country appears to be facing food shortages.
Commanders should “always pay special attention to improving the nutrition of soldiers” to “ensure a regular and timely supply of meat, vegetables and various foodstuffs,” he said. (News.ro)
