Tandem prime minister – president

48.5% of Romanians believe that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp in order to avoid disputes and instability. 49.4% believe that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be representatives of different political camps in order to control each other, even with the risk of quarrels and instability. 2.1% of survey participants do not know or do not answer this question.

I believe that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp, especially: PSD-PNL and ADU voters, young people under 30, people with primary or secondary education, potentially inactive active or gray-collar workers, low-income people, small urban or rural residents.

He believes that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be from different political camps in order to control each other, especially: people with higher education, “white-collar workers”, residents of the big city and Bucharest.

  • “Romanians want to synchronize the mandates of the president, parliament and mayors, perhaps to simplify the electoral process. The instability and political crises that arose after the 2003 amendment to the Constitution, which established a 5-year presidential mandate, causing a difficult coexistence between presidents of a certain political orientation and a parliamentary majority of a different political color, are perceived as problems only for a part of the population.
  • Thus, half of Romanians believe that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp, so that there are no more disputes and instability, and the other half of the population believes that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be representatives of different political camps, to control each other, even at the risk of quarrels and instability,” said Remus Stefuriak, Director General of INSCOP.

The survey was conducted by INSCOP Research on the order of News.ro Press Agency. The data were collected from February 22 to 29 by the CATI method (telephone interviews), using a questionnaire.

The size of the simple stratified sample is 1100 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, profession) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania aged 18 and over.

The maximum permissible data error is ± 2.95% with a confidence level of 95%.
