Two young accomplices in a February 2019 arson attack that killed a 22-year-old woman were sentenced Tuesday by a Buzeu court to life imprisonment and 20 years in prison, respectively.

The decision issued by the Buzeu court is not final and can be appealed within 20 days, according to Agerpres.

The author of the crime, Kosmin Dan, was already sentenced in January 2020 to 24 years of imprisonment for intentional murder by means of cruelty and destruction and causing damage to the girl’s family in the amount of 150,000 euros. After consuming alcohol and drugs on the morning of February 23, 2019, he entered the apartment of his ex-girlfriend Nika Valentina, doused her with gasoline from a bottle, and then set it on fire with a lighter, the fire spread to the house.

Two accomplices convicted on Tuesday of complicity to aggravated murder and destruction received such harsh sentences because the investigation determined that they provided the criminal with a bottle of gasoline, which they passed to him at the victim’s apartment, after he would have asked for it. indicating his intention to set the victim on fire.

“On the basis of Article 48 of the Criminal Code in connection with Article 188 paragraph 1 – Article 189 paragraph 1 letter h of the Criminal Code, the defendant Klonts Rada Stefan is sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of complicity in qualified murder on 23.02. 2019, causing harm to the victim Nika Valentina Daniela. Based on Article 48 of the Criminal Code. referring to part 4 of Article 253 of the Criminal Code, sentences the accused Klonts Rada Štefan to 7 years of imprisonment for committing a crime related to destruction by arson on 23.02.2019, to the detriment of the injured person Dodan Milica Kata.. On the basis of Article 38 h. 1 of the Criminal Code. with reference to article 39 paragraph 1 letter a of the Criminal Code, article 45 paragraph 3 letter a, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code, the defendant Klonc Radu Štefan is sentenced to life imprisonment,” reads the decision published by the Buzeu court.

And the other accomplice received 20 years of imprisonment.

“Sentencing the defendant Naum Aleksandra to 19 years of imprisonment for the crime of complicity in qualified murder on February 23, 2019, to the detriment of the victim Nika Valentina Daniela… Based on Article 48 of the Criminal Code. referring to part 4 of Article 253 of the Criminal Code, sentences the defendant Naum Aleksandra to 3 years of imprisonment for committing a crime related to destruction by arson on February 23, 2019, to the detriment of the injured person Dodan Milica Kata. On the basis of Article 38, Part 1 of the Criminal Code. with reference to article 39 paragraph 1 letter b of the Criminal Code, article 45 paragraph 3 letter a, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code, to apply the most severe punishment to the defendant Naum Aleksandra, namely 19 years of imprisonment, to which an increase of 1 year of imprisonment is added ( 1/3 of the amount of the other established punishment), the defendant must serve the final punishment in the form of 20 years of imprisonment”, – stated in the decision of the Buzeau court.
