Traian Basescu announced on Digi24 on Tuesday night that he will no longer be running for a second term as a member of the European Parliament, saying that for him it is the “head of the line” in politics.
When asked if he would run for a new term as a member of the European Parliament in the June European Parliament elections, Basescu (72 years old) said no, and that for him “he is the main thing” in politics.
Asked what he will do next, Traian Basescu said he has created a foundation through which he takes high school students to Brussels to visit the European Parliament.
- “He registered a fund for me. I took high school students to Brussels to see the European Parliament. Now I have 60 children from private and public schools who will go to Brussels next week,” said Traian Basescu.
In May 2019, Traian Basescu was elected as a member of the European Parliament on the list of the PMP.
