Incriminating video footage released by the US Attorney’s Office suggests that American actor Alec Baldwin misled the public about his actions before fatally shooting director Galina Hutchins during the filming of the feature film Rust, Variety reports.

The footage was shown by prosecutors at the trial of Hanna Gutierrez Reed, a Rust gunsmith, who is facing a separate criminal case for her role in the events that occurred on October 21, 2021, that resulted in the death of Galina Hutchins.

Footage shows the film’s director, American filmmaker Joel Souza, shouting “action” as Baldwin emerges from a wooden shed and walks towards the camera, firing an old handgun. Immediately after hearing “Stop!”, the actor wanted to do another take.

“Another! Another! Another! Immediately! Let’s reload!” Baldwin yelled.Variety magazine, which had a correspondent at Gutierrez Reed’s trial, said the tapes showed the then-24-year-old gunsmith rushing to put more blank rounds into the gun while Baldwin was visibly impatient.

“Let’s get started! Let’s go!” Alec Baldwin urged. “We have to have two guns when reloading,” he added.

The US prosecutor’s office accuses the actor of negligent homicide

The United States Attorney’s Office charged Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed with involuntary manslaughter. But in Baldwin’s case, prosecutors say he is also guilty of pulling the trigger of the gun that killed Hutchins and because of his role as a producer on the film.

The new footage was presented by prosecutors during Gutierrez Reed’s trial during cross-examination of Brian Carpenter, an experienced gunsmith they called as an expert witness for the prosecution.

Carpenter made numerous mistakes and disregards of safety rules during the videotape released by prosecutors, prosecutors and Gutierrez Reed and Baldwin.

For example, in another series, Baldwin could be seen lying on the ground on his back with a gun in his hands. He showed off the gun as he explained to the camera crew how to stand up and shoot. “I don’t want to shoot at you, I’m going to shoot near you,” he told them.

“He’s using the gun as a pointer,” Carpenter said.

In another sequence, Gutierrez Reed can be heard warning the crew, “Anyone in the way of the gun, shoot.”

Carpenter concluded from footage provided by prosecutors that the gunsmith appeared to be afraid to correct Baldwin, which led to some safety issues on set.

But last week, prosecutors also presented text messages in court showing that Gutierrez Reid said he was smoking “to get high” the night before the crash that killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Gutierrez is also charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly passing a bag of cocaine to a teammate after the incident to prevent police from finding it.

Alec Baldwin’s trial will begin in July

As for Alec Baldwin’s trial, a New Mexico judge late last month set a July 10 trial date. Variety magazine notes that the footage shown at Gutierrez Reed’s trial is likely to be shown at the actor’s trial as well.

In several interviews after the fatal incident, Baldwin stated that throughout his career he had always strictly followed safety rules on set.

In a December 2021 interview, he also said he did not pull the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins, suggesting it was fired accidentally.

“Well, the trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” the actor told ABC News reporter George Stephanopoulos.

“So you didn’t pull the trigger at all? Stephanopoulos then asked. “No, no, no. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger. Never,” Alec Baldwin emphasized.
