Health Minister Alexandru Rafila said on Wednesday in Slobozia that a proposal to tax medical leave has come from the Ministry of Finance, but that there will be reimbursement for patients with chronic or oncological diseases.
“As far as you know, the Ministry of Finance and our colleagues from the coalition came from there with a proposal. I understand this from a financier’s point of view, if you will, I’m not a financier. But, of course, there are patients who have chronic diseases, cancer patients, for whom daily expenses are also important, and the discussion that is now is to analyze whether this taxation will be increased for certain categories or in general. Wait, let’s discuss, but of course for patients with chronic or oncological diseases, I had a position on this, there will be a reparative measure,” said Rafila.
The Minister of Health believes that taxing sick leave is not overtaxation.
“When you work, you get a salary, income is taxed at 10%. In the case of medical leave, the income is not taxable. It is about taxation of this income. There was an emergency regulation initiated by the Ministry of Finance that also included sick pay income in this tax grid, which is now in place. If you say it is a retaxation, it means that it is an additional tax. There is no question of any additional tax, so that everything is clear from the beginning!” said Rafila.
The Minister of Health was present on Wednesday in Slobozia, in the county hospital, where the work on the modernization and expansion of the emergency department was completed. At the end of the event, the minister held a press conference.
