At least 180 lambs died in a fire that broke out on Friday afternoon in a saiwan in Tulcea county. They also burned 2.5 tons of fodder, and the saivan suffered 70% damage, News.ro reported.

On Friday, ISU Tulcea received a request to extinguish a fire on a livestock farm in the town of Cerna.

2 crews of the Machina fire department with 2 fire trucks, the crew of SMURD and Cherna SVSU went to the scene.

“At the time of the arrival of the operational units, the fire turned out to be general, with an open flame, in the animal husbandry premises, which was soon localized by the employees of the Cherna SVSU. The rescuers urgently began to evacuate the animals from the premises and put out the fire. Approximately 2.5 tons of fodder and 70% of saivans were burned. About 50 lambs were saved. Unfortunately, approximately 180 lambs died as a result of the fire,” said representatives of ISU Tulc.

Firefighters stated that the fire was most likely caused by an accidentally thrown cigarette.
