Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has the right to choose who will lead the Ukrainian army, and the United States will work effectively with his new military chief, a senior Pentagon official said on Thursday, Reuters reported.

On Thursday, Ukraine’s Defense Minister announced the replacement of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said he had met with Valery Zaluzhny and that it was time for a change in military leadership, but that he was proposing to stay “in his team” altogether .

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, who headed the Ground Forces, was appointed Commander-in-Chief of Ukrainian forces instead of Valery Zaluzhny.
