Threads, the latest social media platform created by Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company, became the fastest growing app in the world in July 2023, just five days after its launch. 100 million users created a Threads account, a rate thus surpassing the record previously set by ChatGPT. It also launched in Europe in December 2023, but only after the company revised a number of features under the European Digital Markets Act.

And in Romania, Threads enjoyed success. First, it looked like a place in the past where we could see what the Internet looked like in its early days – wilder, still untamed by filters and moderation. Also, users have abandoned their own filters, so on the new platform they mainly speak two “languages”: hatred and indignation.
