A real success

If you follow automotive news at all, you can’t avoid it. SUVs have been on the rise in recent years, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. And it is not for nothing that this silhouette enjoys great success, and almost all manufacturers have taken up it. Even the most elite and sporty brands such as Rolls-Royce or even Lamborghini. Only a few, such as McLaren and Bugatti, are still holding out for now. And it seems that it is not the actions against these vehicles that are changing the minds of manufacturers and customers. Also, in the United States, SUVs sell better than other categories, including pickup trucks and other SUVs. And the trend is about the same in Europe in 2023, as the latter sold more than all other categories combined. This is actually data from specialized firm AAA Data. And we explain everything you need to know about it!

Growing numbers

Thus, according to data published by Automotive News Europe, 51% of new car sales were SUVs and other crossovers, leaving sedans and other compact cars. A very high indicator, which corresponds to a 19% increase in sales compared to the previous year. And this is, in particular, thanks to the success of some models, such as the Tesla Model Y. By the way, its sales actually increased by 85% on the Old Continent in just one year. In addition, compact SUVs are the most popular in Europe, with 4.1 million vehicles sold. However, the figures show that premium SUV sales were up 31% year-on-year to 843,939 sales. An undeniable success for raised models of all types, which the government does not like. Yes, the mayor of Paris wants them to disappear from the capital by increasing the cost of parking.
