The explosion occurred at OJSC Votkin Machine-Building Plant, which produces products for military and civilian purposes.

The plant in Votkinsk is located 50 kilometers from the capital of Udmurtia, Izhevsk. In addition to civilian products, it produces artillery missiles, in particular strategic ballistic missiles for the Topol-M and Iskander systems, according to “Free Europe”.

By the end of 2023, the Votkin plant had 19 state contracts for the production of nuclear weapons components. The plant also has a testing ground.

TASS wrote that the explosion could have occurred “during scheduled tests of rocket engines.”
