MEP Vlad Gheorghe announced on Sunday his resignation from USR, the “modus operandi” through which the party’s leadership “turned USR into a smaller PSD with a quarter of the poll results”: “No, USR is not a victim, no, there is no conspiracy , these are simply the results of the management of the SRS in recent years. Agree on 10%-12% interest depending on the error and not change anything, even deepen the problems?”.

A week ago, Vlad Gheorghe accused that he was not admitted to the Political Committee of the Ukrainian SSR: “The gendarmerie moved to the Ukrainian SSR.” USR spokesman Ionuc Mostianu later said MEP Vlad Gheorghe had been suspended from the party for failing to pay membership fees and he could have known it, a fact the MEP denied.

“Accept 10-12% margin of error and not change anything, let alone make the problem worse?”

On Sunday, the EDR MEP published a long message on Facebook about his departure from the party, making serious accusations against the party’s leadership.

He says that even a week after he was barred from participating in the Political Committee of the UDR, he would not have received an official or unofficial response from the party leadership, and that there were “only hallucinatory public statements by Ketalin Drula and his close associates.” .

Vlad Gheorghe accuses that the USR list in the elections to the European Parliament was “imposed from under the pen of the head of Drula” and talks about the “modus operandi that turned the USR into a smaller PSD and with a quarter of the results in the polls”:

  • “Either I have a 24-month suspension – the only one in the history of the party, there is no other member, I’m not saying MEP, who has a continuous two-year suspension and the sanctions don’t last – or I’ve been allegedly negotiating with other parties and fairs about functions. The incomprehensible “strategy” of having two more MEPs and keeping one behind the door with fake news is another proof that the political vision of the “leaders” who took over the UDR is, to say the least, limited.
  • I repeat, like the list imposed by the pen of Drula chairman for the elections to the European Parliament, the problem is not in my name or my person, but in this modus operandi, this “leadership”, which turned the USR into a smaller PSD and with a quarter of the rating in the polls . No, the UDR is not a “victim”, there is no conspiracy, it’s just the results of the UDR leadership in recent years.
  • Agree to 10% – 12% interest, depending on the error, and not change anything, even deepen the problems? With such points to continue talking about candidates for the government and president?
  • Refuse dialogue with any member or elected official who does not give you hope, do not stop the bleeding of exits from the party, even make exceptions on the assembly line yourself, use public money non-transparently, for your own glory, to show up too late or for employment and contracts exclusively for supporters, with the arrogance to treat any questions from citizens or the media.”
  • The MEP also says that “it is no coincidence that USR is only in fourth place in the options of Romanians, less than 4 months before the first elections”.

“I refused, refuse and will refuse such compromises”

Vlad Gheorghe also claims that the USR is “no longer the alternative that can change something” due to “the new direction imposed by Catalin Drula and those around him”, so he is leaving the party:

  • “It is normal that I am no longer in the UDR, the real problem is that the values, mission, struggle and results of the UDR are no longer in the leadership of this party. That there is no alternative that can change something.
  • It is tragic and extremely painful for the “Otherwise” party to withdraw from internal elections and nominate its candidates, conditioning the statutory rights on obedience to the boss, control over the party and loyalty to the gang, rather than principles.
  • I refused, refuse and will refuse such compromises. As long as this is the price I have to pay to stay in the EDR, we part ways. (…)
  • That is why I remain a friend of the USR creed since 2016 – let’s change Romania for the better. But not by any means, not at any cost, not by the machinations of the parties and politicians from whom we promised to distance ourselves.”
