The former director of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Eduard Helwig, blames AUR senator Claudio Tarzia for the speech in Iasi on the Day of the Sobronia, when he said that Romania “must be reunited” with Bessarabia, as well as with the territories that are now part of Ukraine. The former head of the SRI says that the AUR leader cannot be classified as a “useful idiot” and that he specifically chooses such potentially inflammatory topics, which are also used by far-right politicians in Hungary and, above all, which “convince him most to Vladimir Putin.”
IN message posted on platform X (Twitter)Helwig accuses the AUR leader of “cynical playing with a hot topic, which he knows well is fiction.”
“Mr. Claudio Tarzio is not an idiot. Some would say they’re not even useful.”
- “The other day, a gentleman spoke about the need to have good cooperative relations with Russia and how we, Romania, should go to take territory from Ukraine, which is on the ropes.
- Of course, Vladimir Putin likes the speech the most: “Look, world, a lot of countries are unhappy, so our war is justified.”
- In politics, a gentleman with frivolous words would usually be called a “useful idiot.” That is, the one who, without much analysis, launches messages that perfectly suit the opponent.
- The problem is that Mr. Claudio Tarzio is not an idiot. Some would say they are not even useful. That is, do not make these statements too quickly. We cannot suspect that he got carried away and that the pigeon got out. Mr. Tarziou plays cynically with a hot topic that he knows well is fiction. He likes the agitation of the nationalist torch very much, not the national idea at all. Because it gets news, exposure and electoral pool from campaigning.
- He also cynically knows that his words are a political statement and, as such, he cannot be held responsible for any contradictions with the official position of the Romanian state,” the former head of the SRI claims.
Eduard Helwig says the theme is also being used by far-right politicians in Hungary, who also claim territory in Ukraine, which is in a state of war started by Vladimir Putin:
- “However, there is an incredible trumpet that is still in tune with Mr. Tarzio. László Torocskaj, his colleague in Budapest, who happens to be declaring 24 hours later that Hungary should return territories to Ukraine.
- Since I don’t believe in coincidences, I have three questions in mind.
- When he talks about the normalization of relations with Russia, what “normal” period does he mean? To know how to cook…
- When he launched his list to the European Parliament, why did he choose Italy instead of the lands he claims? Just not for votes…
- When he found himself in thoughts, feelings and accounts with a Hungarian politician, was Mr. Tarziu in Cc or in Bcc?”.
“We will not be truly sovereign until we reintegrate the Romanian state within its natural borders”
On January 24, the President of the AUR National Management Council, Claudio Tarziu, gave a speech in Iasi, in which he spoke about the unification of Romania with the Republic of Moldova, as well as the unification of the territories that are now part of Ukraine.
- “We will not be truly sovereign until we reintegrate the Romanian state within its natural borders. Bessarabia must return home. Northern Bukovina cannot be forgotten, southern Bessarabia, Hertz, Transcarpathia, everything that was and is the Romanian nation must return to the state.
- This is an ideal that we must not forget. Moldova is famous. Stefan’s Moldova should be at home, in Romania,” the AUR leader argued, thus continuing the theme used by Senator Diana Shoshoeke, who also initiated a bill rejected by parliament that demanded the annexation of some territories from Ukraine.
Claudio Tarzio will be the AUR’s candidate in the European Parliament elections, a scenario discussed by the PNL and in the case of Hellwig, who resigned last summer from the leadership of the SRI, where he had been for eight years.
