Social leasing: finally no limits on the number of files? Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Of the 90,000 social leasing applications submitted, with only 25,000 applications being retained, even though some of the applications are clearly not eligible, there will be some disappointed people.

But as our colleagues at Auto Infos report, the government may well be opening the floodgates as more files were recently expected to be accepted, but we’re not talking about 40,000 files here anymore, but the full end of the quota.

A few points to review

Indeed, after negotiations between Mobilians and the ministry in charge of social leasing, the government intends to clarify the administrative finesse surrounding this system, including the end of the quota of 25,000 cars. A decision that the legislator intends to formalize in a decree. According to data compiled by Mobilians, more than 35,000 valid applications have already been submitted, well above the initial quota of 25,000. Meanwhile, the government could also finally issue an executive order on the exact size of the environmental premium for 2024.
The executive could also provide some clarifications and correct certain flaws in the system. As you are of course aware, there is a taxable income threshold that cannot be exceeded in order to be eligible for social leasing. This is 15,400 euros per share. To qualify for social leasing you obviously have to qualify for the €5,000 environmental bonus (waiting for the 2024 decree…) that everyone gets, plus the extra €2,000 ‘super bonus’ to go up to 7000 euros. Except that the basic income for this ‘super bonus’ is not the same as the social leasing income as it is €14,089. For this reason, this eliminates many candidates who are nevertheless eligible for social leasing.

Terms of social leasing

This social leasing is correlated with a basic tax income, which must not exceed 15,400 euros per year per unit. Therefore, a couple earning €30,800 a year may be eligible for the scheme. The second condition is that you must drive more than 8,000 kilometers per year for professional reasons or live more than 15 kilometers from your place of work. But be careful, trips by bike, public transport or car sharing are not counted. Only the trip by car is taken into account. Cross-border trips may be counted, but detours to leave school or kindergarten are not.

To prove this, you will need to request a mileage certificate from your company’s HR manager.
