Daniil Medvedev advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open on Monday, the double finalist from Melbourne defeated surprise Nuna Borges (Portugal – No. 69 ATP) in four sets.

Medvedev, the third seed, won in four sets, 6-3, 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-1, at the end of a match that lasted three hours and seven minutes.

  • Russian Medvedev will face Hubert Gurkach, the No. 9 favorite in Melbourne, in the quarters. The Pole overcame Frenchman Artur Cazo in the round of 16, 7-6(6), 7-6(3), 6-4.
  • Medvedev is a double finalist in Melbourne in the 2021 and 2022 editions. He was defeated in the last action by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal respectively (two years ago).
  • Daniil is a former world leader who climbed to the top of the ATP ranking on February 28, 2022.
