In the 12th day of protests on the DN2, from Afumac to the entrance to Bucharest, farmers and transporters did not want to participate in the protest, which received permission to take place in the capital’s Constitution Square. One of the protesters explained that they did not want to be political, TVR News reported. On the other hand, the mayor of the capital Nikushor Dan said that the organizer of the protest in Bucharest will be asked whether the protest will continue on Monday and Tuesday.
The refusal of the Afumati protesters to take part in the demonstration in the capital comes in the context of the organizer of the protest at the Constitution Square being a lawyer who admitted to having signed a membership application for Senator Diana Shoshoake’s party, SOS.
“We have been with our brothers in agriculture, the farmers, for 12 days, we will remain firm in our position in Afumaka. We are not affiliated with any political party or political representative. We are staying in Afumata. We are stuck here, we are here and we will stay. Everyone is free to go and protest in Bucharest. We will stay here,” one of the protesters, Ciprian Melinte, said, according to the previously quoted source.
Nikushor Dan says the organizer of the protest in the capital will be asked if the demonstration will continue on Monday and Tuesday
The protest, which theoretically started at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at Piața Constituției, saw only one tractor head arrive, with a maximum of 15 people present at any one time throughout the day.
In this context, the mayor of the capital noted that he will ask the organizer of the protest, lawyer Mirchi Bohdan Petre, whether the protest will continue in the following days.
“The question is: maybe we can discuss on Monday with the organizer or limit or give up Mondays and Tuesdays. (…) Tomorrow there will be a regular meeting of the commission, and during the commission we will call him (the organizer, no) and we will see what he intends,” Nikushor Dan said, according to Agerpres.
Nikusor Dan clarified that, according to his information, there are no other applications for protests related to the complaints of farmers and transporters.
