Justice Minister Alina Gorgiu said on Saturday that 17 fugitives had been brought to the country last week and detailed the costs incurred by the Romanian state in the process over the past three years.
“To bring a fugitive to the country, the state buys 3 plane tickets. Daily allowances and living expenses of the police officers who received the wanted person are added to this,” Gorgiu wrote on Facebook.
The minister reminds that in 2021, the state spent more than 9.4 million lei on the delivery of refugees to the country, in 2022 – more than 8.6 million lei, and last year the amount increased to more than 10 million lei.
“This year we will have a law according to which the fugitive pays the costs associated with his delivery to the country. The draft law was submitted for public discussion on the website of the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday. The phenomenon of fugitives must be stopped! The sentence must be carried out in the country,” Gorgiou said.
17 fugitives were brought to Romania from Ireland, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Great Britain. (Agerpress)
