Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu said Friday night on Antena 3 that he has no information according to which trucks transiting through Romania, loaded from Ukraine, will have priority when unloading goods at the port of Constanta. He announces that if he is given the “slightest proof” that this is what is happening, the entire management of the Port of Constanţa will be replaced, News.ro reports.
Asked on a TV show on Friday night by a representative of the farmers, who asked him if he was aware of the fact that in the port of Constanta Romanian TIRs have to wait for several days in a row, while trucks from Ukraine will have priority, the Minister of Transport replied that according to with the information he has, it is not true, stressing that if he is given proof that this is what is happening, the entire management of the Port of Constanta will be changed.
“It is not true. I would ask you to give me a testimony, and at this moment the entire management of the Port of Constanta is changing. I don’t work on stories, I need the slightest proof. Please bring the smallest proof that the truck from Ukraine does not stop at all and the truck from Romania stops, the smallest proof that this is happening and the entire management of the port of Constanţa changes!” Sorin told Grindianu on Antena 3.
He emphasized that, according to the information available to him, “at the moment there is no difference” between trucks from Ukraine and trucks from Romania and other countries.
Grindianu also spoke about the fees charged to the company’s carriers operating at the port, saying he had discussed the matter with the Competition Council so the body could check the situation.
“It was an issue that was raised (in discussions with the protesters – no) about that new tax that was introduced by economic entities, which I signaled to the Competition Council, to me and to the Prime Minister, and I hope that the decision will be found as soon as possible,” Grindianu said.
Regarding other fees that carriers have to pay to the port authority, the transport minister explained: “These fees, you know, are everywhere in this world.”
“I repeat: some things can be done, I’m open to finding solutions, others can’t,” Sorin added to Grindean regarding the demands of farmers and transporters.
