The Leu station is located on highway 100 Bucharest-Timisoara, 24 km from Craiova and 30 km from Caracal

We will remind, on January 16, at the entrance to the CF Leu station, nine cars of a private freight train (Global Rail Solutions) derailed, two more overturned. There were 35 cars in the train.

In the future, trains will be operated with diesel traction, on alternative routes Craiova – Piatra Olt – Caracal (simple non-electrified line) or with the transfer of passengers by road transport between CF stations Craiova – Caracal and back, provided by SRCF Craiova, traffic measures that will to be maintained until the interventions carried out by the railway staff at the CF Leu station are completed.

The derailment caused significant damage: the track on both lines of traffic was damaged (300 m), three track devices were damaged, and the pole of the contact line was broken.

SRCF Craiova intervention teams continue to operate with a 250 tonne heavy duty crane to lift the other two derailed carriages from the Malu Mare – Leu II circulation line.

At the moment, repair work has been carried out on line I (Leu – Malu Mare) (installation of sleepers, rails, track device) and work is being carried out to bring the line up to the parameters for train movement and connection to the power grid. contact wire

It is important to clarify that the restoration of railway traffic on line I is due to the lifting of wagons on line II, an operation that can only be carried out by placing (rolling) a large-tonnage crane on line I.

The event on January 16 is being investigated by the AGIFER special commission, which will establish the reasons for the derailment.
