Mirra Andreeva and Diane Parry played an honorable match in the third round of the Australian Open. Only 16 years old, the Russian made an impressive comeback from 1-5 down in the deciding set to reach the round of 16 in Melbourne after a match that lasted two hours and 23 minutes.

At the age of just 16, Mirra (ranked 47th in the world) attracted a lot of attention in Melbourne, especially after her uncontested 6-0, 6-2 win over Ons Jabert in the second round.

A thriller match with Diane Parry followed for the Russian miracle.

The Frenchwoman, who is ranked 72nd in the world, started the game much better and gave her opponent 6-1, which is nothing to comment on.

Mirra changed on the move, made the necessary adjustments and responded to her “mirror” opponent: she won with a score of 6-1.

The decider was not for the faint of heart: Parry again took the lead, she was the more inspired player, made fewer mistakes, and the scoreboard fully confirmed it: the Frenchwoman led 5-1, being one game away from qualifying. Round of 16 in Melbourne.

But it was the hardest game to win for Diana in her career: as Mirra hit more relaxed, knowing that she had nothing left to lose, the French psychologically fell game after game.

From 1-5, Andreeva’s score was 6-5, after which Parry made a break that took the game to a maxi tie-break.

With morale high after an impressive comeback from 1-5 down, Mirra did not miss his chance and the victory was in his favor with a score of 10-5.

The match on Court 3 ended after two hours and 23 minutes with a score of 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(10-5) in favor of Andreeva.
