The Interior Ministry, led by liberal Katalin Preda, understands that the payment of state military pensions in January 2024 exceeds 633.8 million lei, the amount estimated and approved by the government at the end of December last year. In this regard, the MAI requests to add the limit of budgetary credits and credits on obligations, approved for January 2024, according to the Memorandum, to the agenda of the government on Thursday.

234 more military pensions appeared compared to the initial estimate

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds that at the meeting of the Government on December 28, 2023, the Memorandum was approved on the topic “Establishment of the maximum amount of budget loans and debt obligations for the month of January 2024.”

“Regarding Title IX Social Assistance, the limit requested by the Ministry of the Interior of 650,000,000 lei was fully approved. From this amount, 633,800,000 lei constitute the estimated need for the payment of state military pensions in January 2024.

Considering:

  • the deadline set by the Ministry of Finance for the transfer of the necessary budget limits and commitments for January 2024, respectively December 18, 2023,
  • clarification of the Sectoral Department of Pension Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to which calculations based on the results of the actual need for pension payments, taking into account the impact on such an approach of the legislative norms approved in the last half of 2023, were completed on 12.29.2023,
  • the amount of 27,000,000 lei is required in addition to the initial assessment, which is the result of the completion of calculations for the establishment of pension rights related to January 2024, created both by the application of the legal provisions indicated above and by the increase by 234 of the number of beneficiaries of this right from with effect on January 2024,

for the full payment of pension rights in January 2024, it is necessary to supplement the limit of budgetary and credit obligations approved for January 2024 under Section IX “Social Assistance”, – the Memorandum states.
