​Emma Reducanu made it to the second round of the Australian Open, the Brit beat the American Shelby Rogers without emotion.

Recently back on the tennis court (she has undergone operations on both hands and ankles), Reducanu is ranked 296 in the WTA rankings, but she entered the main draw in Melbourne after several players withdrew (she was using a protected ranking).

Emma needed an hour and 17 minutes to defeat the experienced Shelby (161 WTA / 31 years), 6-3, 6-2.

Know:

• The 2021 US Open champion will face Yafan Wang (94 WTA) in the next round, after the Chinese secured the comeback of the day against Sorana Kirstea (the Romanian led with a score of 6-0, 3-0).

• Emma Redukana is being coached at her first Grand Slam this year by Nick Kavaday, who was also with her in her youth.

Australian Open 2024 will be held from January 14 to 28. The reigning champions are Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenko.
