Ploiesti Blood Transfusion Center has decided to limit the number of blood donors accepted each day due to the very large number of people who come to donate blood. People who stood in line to donate blood received vouchers, those who donated blood within the last five years and people with rare blood groups are the first to be accepted. The coordinator of the center rejects the statements of those who claim that only the increase in the value of the vouchers – four times – is the reason that motivates people to donate, she says that in moments of balance, such as after the Crevedia explosion or the period that followed the fire at ” Collective”, there were days when hundreds of people went to donate blood without significant benefit.

The coordinator of the Ploiesti Blood Transfusion Center, Georgeta Khanganu, published a message on the limitation of the number of blood donors in Ploiesti:

• “Thank you, dear donors, for your willingness to donate blood! Due to the large flow of donors, we are forced to limit the daily reception of donors!
• Please note that (…) we will only accept donations from donors who have donated within the last five years! Thanks for understanding!”.

The decision was made in the context of a large number of presentations at the center, in the context of which the value of vouchers received by donors increased from 70 lei to 280 lei.

• “We accept only those donors that we need, more donors are coming, there is a greater influx, but we announced that we are accepting donors who have donated in the last five years, that is, those donors who helped us even when the value of the voucher it was symbolic and people understood and came exactly as much as we needed.
• We provide serial numbers. Today we gave 70 serial numbers, to the first people who stood in the queue in the morning, after which we got the deficient groups, that is, we got the AB group, which, although there were many donors, was deficient in percentage in number. presentations, groups with a negative RZ, where there is a greater demand.
• We have to manage donors and stocks properly, it’s part of our profession. It’s like a drug factory: we can’t produce medicine for the liver if people have heart disease,” doctor Georgeta Khanganu told News.ro on Thursday.

She claimed that there were no problems because “people understood” the situation: “If the person is explained correctly, because we have nothing to hide and we only tell the person the truth, he understands.

• “Regarding the number of donors, I think we received a hundred more than in the same period last year.
• More people come because we live in a material world, we must admit, we must not be hypocritical, any material value is important for everyone. We do not argue with anyone, we do not hold discussions.
• With our selection methods, we try to take older donors, those donors who donated during the last five years and who generally helped us and who deserve our respect. There are people that we called, we called them from home, and it seems right to me that they should have priority, especially since we rely on them, we know what their groups are, what components we can make from their blood, we are going without a doubt, we have for the hospital exactly what it requires,” said Georgeta Khanganu.

She dismissed the idea that people donate blood only for financial gain:

• “Those people who come to our aid are to be commended, as they were when the value of the voucher was lower. That there is a lot of discussion on social networks, there are people who say that people only come for these vouchers. Falsehood!
• People come to help and can object to anyone.
• A recent example: when there was an accident in Krevedia, everyone rushed to help with a voucher for 70 lei, we had many donors and many presentations, just like now. When it was Collective, we had 300 people in one day. Everyone rushed to help, because society, when a dramatic situation occurs, mobilizes to take part in preserving the health of a person in need, this is exactly what is happening now, only the benefits are greater, and this is not bad.”
