Iryna Bara was defeated by Eva Lys in the second round of Australian Open 2024 qualification
Bara (183 WTA), the last Romanian remaining in the qualification, lost to the athlete from Germany after only 65 minutes of play with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Lis (141, favorite 26 at this stage of the competition) will fight for a place in the main draw with France’s Leolia Jeanjean (145 WTA).

- Romania has three representatives in the main draw of the Australian Open 2024: Sorana Kirstia (26 WTA / favorite 22), Ana Bohdan (66 WTA) and Jacqueline Christian (84 WTA). Three have already found their first rivals.
- Iryna Begu (79 WTA) announced her withdrawal, and Gabriela Ruse (134 WTA) also decided not to play in the qualifiers.
- Miriam Bulgaru (192 WTA) and Andrea Mitu (217 WTA) were eliminated in the first round of qualification.
- Simona Halep is out of the Australian Open for the second straight year pending a decision on her CAS case.
The 2024 Australian Open will be held from January 14 to 28. The reigning champions are Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenko.
