
Iryna Bara advanced to the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open 2024, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, by defeating Yulia Hatuka in three sets.

Iryna Bara in the second round of Australian Open 2024 qualification
Bara (183 WTA) is the only representative of Romania who won in the qualification of the tournament in Melbourne.
In a very even match, Iryna won a victory over an athlete from Belarus with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. The game lasted two hours and seven minutes.
In the next round, Iryna Bara will play against Eva Lys (141 WTA, the 26th favorite of this phase of the competition), after the player from Germany beat the Slovenian Veronika Erjavec (193 WTA), the score 6-2, 6-3.
Also on Tuesday, Andrea Mitu and Miriam Bulgaru were defeated in the first round of qualification.

- Three representatives of Romania are admitted directly to the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne: Sorana Kirstia (26 WTA), Ana Bohdan (66 WTA) and Jacqueline Christian (87 WTA).
- Iryna Begu (79 WTA) announced her withdrawal, and Gabriela Ruse (134 WTA) also decided not to play in the qualifiers.
- Simona Halep is out of the Australian Open for the second straight year pending a decision on her CAS case.
The 2024 Australian Open will be held from January 14 to 28. The reigning champions are Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenko.
