In this video released by the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, an Israeli hostage, speaking in English and Hebrew, says it is January 5 and asks Israeli authorities to secure his release and exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

According to the Jerusalem Post, this is 47-year-old Elad Katzir, who was kidnapped on October 7 from Kibbutz Nir Oz.

Ynet, which says it decided not to publish the video at the request of Katsir’s family, says that in the recorded message Elad Katsir mourns the loss of his friend Tamir Adar, whose death was announced a few days ago. Katsir previously appeared in a Palestinian Islamic Jihad video released on December 20, Ynet reported.

Katsir worked as a farmer in Nir Oz. His mother, Hanna, 76, was released during the November truce but has since been hospitalized in critical condition.

To date, there are no significant negotiations on a new hostage release agreement. On Sunday, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Thani acknowledged that the killing of Hamas deputy leader Selah Al-Aruri had affected Doha’s efforts to mediate talks between Hamas and Israel. However, he stated that Qatar is constantly working to mediate the dialogue between the two sides.
