CMMB officials reveal that there are approximately 900 vacant doctor positions in the public health system in Bucharest.

“The College of Doctors of the City of Bucharest (CMMB) supports the measures initiated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to unblock positions in the health sector. The representatives of the CMMB are requesting the Ministry of Finance to approve the memorandum submitted by the Ministry of Health for the hospitals under its jurisdiction, as well as the memorandum submitted by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA) for the hospitals under the authority of local authorities, in including the Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services of Bucharest,” the press release states.

Currently, the Romanian medical system is facing a significant shortage of personnel, the College of Doctors of the Municipality of Bucharest draws attention.

At the level of the city of Bucharest, there are approximately 500 doctor positions unfilled in the hospitals under the Ministry of Health, and there are 390 vacant positions at the level of the hospitals coordinated by the ASSMB.

“As president of the College of Physicians of the Municipality of Bucharest, I appeal to the competent authorities to find a solution as soon as possible to unlock positions and organize competitions in accordance with legal procedures. This measure will also facilitate the integration into the health care system of those who have completed the residency and passed the exam in their specialty, giving them the opportunity to find a job. In this way, the public medical units could cover the shortage of doctors by completing their staffing schemes,” said university professor Dr. Catalina Poiane, president of the Bucharest Municipality College of Physicians.

Employment in the public system, particularly in the public health system, was frozen in the middle of last year, and the memorandums initiated by the Ministry of Health and the MDLPA were not approved by the Ministry of Finance led by Marcel Bolosh, although it was their only possibility unblock.

Medical units can organize tenders to fill vacant positions of doctors by approving new memoranda approved by the two ministries earlier this year, the quoted source said.

“We are facing a paradox. We really need doctors, there are vacancies in hospitals, we also have doctors, at least from the point of view of those who have completed residency, but employment is blocked. Young doctors want to stay in the country and will choose to work in medical units where they can work,” Katalina Poyane also said.

During this period, difficult situations arise, especially in the guard rooms of some medical units, due to the insufficient number of doctors, CMMB warns.

“At the same time, understaffing in hospitals means exhaustion of existing staff, who often have to work overtime, which can even lead to physical exhaustion and affect the quality of patient care or delays in delivery. medical assistance. In addition, the lack of sufficient personnel in hospitals may even lead to a situation where we will not be able to ensure the continuity of medical activity in certain sections or departments,” the quoted source said.

Under these conditions, the College of Doctors of the Municipality of Bucharest asks the competent authorities to define some legislative and fiscal solutions to unblock employment in the public health care system, thus ensuring the coverage of the needs of doctors and the improvement of working conditions in the medical units of the Bucharest Health Care System, as well as at the national level.
