
A man from the municipality of Feltić was arrested on Thursday after he killed his seven-month-old cat by beheading in November 2023, IPJ Suceava reported.
“On 04/01/2024, the police officers of the Bureau of Animal Protection – IPJ of Suceava completed investigations into the fact of animal cruelty, a man was arrested for killing a feline. On 01.11.2023, the police of Fălticeni municipality received information that a man from Fălticeni municipality killed by beheading an individual of the breed of cat (cat), personal property”, says the statement of IPJ Suceava.
The case was taken over by the operative group of the Bureau of Animal Protection – IPJ Suceava, which went to the scene together with the forensic officer of the Fălticeni police. The case was thoroughly documented, including forensic evidence and special examinations.
“01/04/2024, after the evidence provided by the police officers of the IPJ Suceava Animal Protection Bureau, a decision was made to detain a man who lives in the Feltice municipality, Suceava county, for 24 hours for committing the crime of “killing animals, intentionally, unlawfully”, acting in advance. and ped. art 25, par. (3), lit. a) from the Act No. 205/2004 on the protection of animals – republished, indicating that on 01.11.2023 at 08:00 he killed a kitten in the yard of his residence in the municipality of Feltičeni, county of Suceava, by cutting off its head with a knife (cat), personal property, approx. 7 months. The man was placed in the detention and preventive arrest center of IPJ Suceava,” the police report.
Police officers of the Bureau of Animal Protection will continue the investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office at the Feltychensk Court, and after their completion, an appropriate procedural decision will be assigned.
The police remind that according to the provisions of Law No. 205/2006, reissued on the protection of animals, cruelty or aggression towards animals is punishable up to and including imprisonment.
Thus, it is a crime and is punishable by imprisonment from one to 5 years or a fine:
- a) the use of wild animals belonging to the suborder of vertebrates, regardless of the degree of domestication, born in captivity or caught from the wild, in circus performances, mobile circuses, caravans and orchestras of traveling artists, as well as in any other types of similar shows;
- b) application of tranquilizers to animals in other situations than for their immobilization; c) shooting domestic animals or wild animals kept in captivity; d) intentional injury to animals.
This is a crime and is punishable by imprisonment from 2 to 7 years:
- a) killing of animals, deliberately, without reason;
- b) skinning animals;
- c) organization of fights between animals or with animals;
- d) zoophilia.
