Ambassadors from NATO member states and Ukraine will meet in Brussels on Wednesday at the request of Kyiv, which is demanding increased air defense resources after recent waves of Russian missile strikes and drone strikes, France Presse reported.

The meeting, convened by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at Ukraine’s request, follows “recent Russian missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian civilians,” NATO spokesman Dylan White explained Thursday.

NATO countries have already provided Ukraine with “a significant number of air defense systems and are determined to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense,” he added.

In recent days, Russia has carried out some of its largest missile and drone strikes against Ukraine since the February 24, 2022 invasion of the country.

Because of these attacks, Kyiv is asking its Western allies for more air defense systems, missiles and drones, but they are having difficulty providing them.

US military aid is still blocked by the US Congress due to the reluctance of representatives of the Republican Party.

Ukraine’s mobile air defenses have enough ammunition to deal with only “a few” new large-scale Russian attacks and can only be replenished with help from the West, a Ukrainian general has warned.

Recent massive Russian strikes on major Ukrainian cities are aimed at exhausting Ukrainian air defenses, according to experts consulted by AFP.
