In 2024, there will be four rounds of elections in Romania, with the very likely possibility of a fifth, namely a second round of presidential elections, in addition to the European parliamentary, local, parliamentary and first round of presidential elections. Discussions on combining at least two elections did not lead to concrete results, but the UDMR launched a scenario that seemed the most improbable, namely combining the first round of presidential elections with local ones.

The leaders of the UDMR parliamentary groups, Senator Cheke Attila and MP Choma Botond, with the support of other Union parliamentarians, initiated a draft law that sets a much wider schedule for the Romanian presidential elections, because the presidential elections can be held simultaneously with the local elections.
