Some members of the centrist blue-white faction of Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s National Unity Party today called on Gantz to leave the emergency government the party joined after the war against Hamas began, the Times of Israel reported.

During today’s meeting, Blue and White MPs Michael Beaton and Orit Farkas-Hakohen made the request, claiming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is already in the midst of an election campaign.

However, deputy Zeev Elkin from the party’s second faction, the right-wing New Hope, said it would be a mistake to leave the party.

According to reports, Gantz himself rejected the request, saying, “I don’t stand for political considerations, I’m doing what’s right for Israel. I don’t get up and leave when it’s not good for the state, and in any case, when you do what’s good for Israel, the nation supports you politically.”
