The rector of the University of Bucharest (UB), Marian Preda, claims that there are “poor quality governors” in Romania. He says that the Minister of Finance had to be “severely punished”: “How can you make a mistake with a budget of 10 billion?”, asks Preda.

During the debate for the position of rector of the University, Marian Predu, who currently holds the position, was asked how he sees the role of the university in shaping public policy in Romania.

“We need to create new graduates who will become a good political class. But we cannot implement state policy. This is the job of governors. The fact that Romania now has governors who make budget mistakes… I find it unbelievable. How can the finance minister be wrong in the budget? He should be severely punished for this. How can you go wrong with a 10 billion dollar budget? Therefore, we have low-quality governors, but we cannot replace them, but only send graduates to future generations, who are better,” answered the UB rector.

The first round of elections for the post of UB rector should take place on Wednesday, December 6. The counter-candidate of the current rector is Christian Preda, who is currently the dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences.
