01:10The police, the prosecutor’s office, as well as DSVSA Vaslui inspectors arrived at the Florest Monastery

First, people from DSVSA arrived here and removed the stored fish from refrigerators and freezers. It was weighed and removed. In time, the police from Vaslui also arrived and sealed off the kitchen, reports Vremea Nouă.

The pangasius seller has been identified and DSVSA inspectors will be at the warehouse tomorrow morning to inspect all stock. In fact, they will do the same with the tinned fish that were given to patients for dinner at Murgeni Hospital.

Sanitary and veterinary inspectors fined the monastery 40,000 lei because it did not have a license to operate a canteen and public catering, as well as the necessary permits. Arriving police are investigating an involuntary manslaughter.

23:24In addition to the food offered by the alms of the monks from Florești, patients at the hospital in Murgen would also eat canned fish, Vremea Noua reported.

According to the cited publication, the situation at the hospital in Murgen is getting complicated. In addition to the three deaths, one patient in critical condition, and dozens of other patients with symptoms, 10 hospital workers also developed complications. It seems that they also ate the fish menu provided by the monastery. They are admitted to Bârlad with symptoms.

But, in addition to the food brought from the monastery of Florest, on Tuesday, such products as canned fish and fish roe were also included in the menu of the sick.

“I checked with the manager about the canned goods that were given out for lunch on Tuesday evening. Because, in addition to what those from the Floreşti monastery brought, the sick ate fish roe for breakfast, and canned food in the evening. I looked at the expiration dates on these products and for example on the canned fish I noticed that they expire in 2026 and from the same batch. It is possible that these products will also cause problems,” said Murgeni mayor Eduard Kazaku, who is a zootechnical engineer by profession.

23:04DSP Vaslui collected samples from the hospital, which he is sending to IML Iași, while DSVSA inspectors went to Florești Monastery.

Vremea Nouă reports that representatives of DSP Vaslui took the samples from the hospital in Murgen to be sent for analysis to the laboratory of the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Iași. In addition, DSP Vaslui also asked for the menu list for the last three days of the hospital.

DSVSA Vaslui inspectors went to the Florești Monastery to collect samples of the food prepared there, writes Vremea Nouă. They will also check whether the monastery has a sanitary-veterinary permit for the kitchen, as well as whether there is a permit for catering activities. For example, the hospital administrator was not allowed to accept food products whose origin is not controlled and certified.

According to him, the mission at Murgeni Hospital does not end with the transfer of 27 patients and the crews remain on alert considering that Murgeni Hospital has more than a hundred patients with mental illness.

Four patients were taken by ambulance from Murgeni Hospital within hours. Three died

Representatives of the Vaslui County Ambulance Service intervened on Wednesday to pick up four patients with digestive system diseases from Murgeni Hospital. In three patients, the cardiorespiratory system stopped, they could not be resuscitated.

“The Vaslui ambulance intervened in Murgeni hospital 4 times during the course of several hours that day. First for a 45-year-old man who had to be transferred to Bârlad Hospital with suspected gastroenterocolitis. The emergency medical team found the patient in a state of cardiorespiratory failure. Together with another team and a doctor, resuscitation measures were carried out, but to no avail, after which he was pronounced dead. The second request concerned a 68-year-old man with the same diagnosis. He was taken to Barlad Hospital in serious condition. The third request concerned a 50-year-old woman who had a cardiorespiratory arrest. She also did not respond to resuscitation, and was pronounced dead. A fourth request is currently under consideration. This is a 54-year-old man with cardiac and respiratory arrest. Two SAJ teams are currently performing resuscitation,” representatives of the Vaslui County Ambulance Service said on Wednesday evening, News.ro reported.

At the time of this news, authorities in Valsouia are arranging for the transfer of at least 20 other patients admitted to Murgeni Hospital with digestive symptoms.

“The transfer is coordinated by ISU Vaslui and will be carried out using a multi-casualty ambulance and two SAJ ambulances,” Vaslui Ambulance Service representatives said.

Also, an ambulance with several casualties and an intensive care ambulance are moving from Iasi to Murgheni for a possible worsening of the situation.

“All patients and part of the hospital staff ate fish-based food provided by a nearby monastery”

“At 6:30 p.m., representatives of the Ministry of Health were verbally informed by DSP Vaslui about the serious situation that occurred in the Murgeni psychiatric hospital, subordinate to the City Hall. “During the day of November 21, all patients and part of the hospital staff consumed fish-based food provided by a nearby monastery,” the Ministry of Health reported.

According to the quoted source, at night the patient developed symptoms of digestion, vomiting and diarrhea. During the day of November 22, these symptoms appeared in other patients.

“Currently, 3 deaths have been registered and 1 patient is hospitalized in Barlad Hospital in serious condition. The Ministry of Health organized, immediately after receiving the information, a crisis cell, which ordered the transfer of all symptomatic patients to the intensive care hospital in Barlad, as well as to take biological and food samples for toxicological analysis at the IML in Iași. Food samples were taken and sent to the INSP – Public Health Center in Iasi for microbiological analysis,” the Ministry of Health reported.

Toxic infection from donated food, authorities say. What does the abbot of the monastery say

Journalists of the local publication Vremea Noua contacted Father Ezechiel, the abbot of the Floreşti monastery, who stated:

“The director of the hospital, Mr. Karp, called me and told me about the misfortune that happened! I told him that I don’t think it’s from us, because the food we took yesterday, we also ate in the monastery and we have nothing. We usually do such acts of charity, and since yesterday was the Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, we treated them to a fish dish: yushka and fried pangasius. I chose this particular boneless fish, knowing that it is a dish for those suffering from mental problems. I repeat once again that the unhappiness there is not connected with the food prepared in our kitchen,” said the abbot of the monastery.

The mayor of Murgeni, Eduard Kazacu, urgently arrived at the hospital ward, Vremea Nouă correspondents report.

“The director of the hospital and I together decided not to even consume water from the hospital. Samples were taken from food, from what came from the monastery, as well as from water, because you don’t even know where everything came from,” the mayor said, according to the quoted source.

For his part, Murgeni hospital manager Ionel Karp told Vremea Nouă:

“It all starts with severe diarrhea, vomiting and fever, after which patients immediately go into cardiorespiratory arrest. From the moment of onset of the disease to the cessation of the cardio-respiratory system, a very short time passes, approximately one and a half hours. We have called all the doctors home and we will transport 18-20 more patients to the hospital in Barlad in several ambulances, in addition to the patient who is already in the hospital in Barlad. In total, 142 patients were hospitalized in the hospital in Murgen.”
