Separated by two points going into the final round, Serbia and Montenegro had a chance to finish second after Hungary had already qualified.
In the home game against Bulgaria, the Serbs opened the scoring in the 17th minute thanks to Velkovic, but the second half brought the advantage, with Rusev and Despotov scoring for the visitors in just ten minutes.
Serbia eventually equalized with Babic scoring in the 82nd minute to make the final score 2-2. Good news will also come from the leader of the group.
Hungary respected their status and beat Montenegro 3-1, which finished the group in third position.
No team has qualified for the finals of the European Championship for 24 years, with Serbia and Montenegro representing a single team at the time and competing in Belgium and the Netherlands, finishing 8th.
