One of three suspects in the murder of Sibiu businessman Adrian Kreiner was arrested on Thursday, the prosecutor’s office at the Sibiu court confirmed.
The agency has yet to provide more details, but it appears to be the only suspect still in the country, namely Laurentiu Laketus. The other two escaped after it was learned that their victim had died.
All three suspects are from Dolj County, and it appears the suspect was apprehended there.
It will be recalled that a man was arrested in Timisoara in the case of the murder of a businessman from Sibiu in a fight in his own house. He is accused of helping the perpetrators of the crime, hosting them and facilitating the departure of one of them outside the country.
On Thursday, investigators presented data on the investigation that led to the identification of those responsible for the murder. Sibiu District Police Chief Tiberiu Ivancea said at a press conference that the investigation was extremely difficult, News .ro reports.
“We have encountered a particularly serious event,” Ivanca said, however, noting that it is not decisive for the municipality of Sibiu.
The Sibiu police chief explained that the images were viewed from more than 100 locations covering 10 square kilometers in the municipality of Sibiu, as well as in the neighboring commune of Shelimber. Police also reviewed images from 67 locations that accumulated more than 1,000 hours of footage.
A movie about murder
Investigators explained that there were five suspects – four men and a woman, who left Dumbravica, Timis county, in a car that was left in Deva. They entered the municipality of Sibiu in another car. The woman rented an apartment for three nights, then left the city together with her husband, not taking part in the robbery and murder.
According to the investigation, the suspects watched over the victim’s house from the night of November 4 to 5. Three suspects jumped over the fence and climbed into the attic of the house across the street from the victim’s house, from where they were watching the businessman’s house.
“On November 6, 2023, at 2:23 a.m., they drove off the bridge, tore out an element of the fence of the victim’s building and entered the victim’s yard, unscrewed the light bulbs in the yard, and entered the victim’s garage,” the prosecutor noted.
According to him, the third suspect remained outside and went inside much later.
The victim was found on the couch in the living room. They tied her hands and feet, and then laid her on the floor.
The position the businessman was in is specific to torture procedures that cause severe pain, which should have forced the victim to provide access data to the safe and the location of valuables.
The victim’s daughter, who was upstairs, was also repeatedly threatened with a gun, asking her to name the combination from the safe.
The suspects even armed her with a gun to force her to give her details, and the conversation with her was conducted in English.
The investigators established that none of the perpetrators knew the victim, but it is considered that they acted on a tip, and not with the purpose of committing a crime. It is not yet known who gave the information, but it is assumed that it was an acquaintance of the businessman.
According to the investigation, since the evening when it became known about the death of the deceased, three suspects have already left the country. Perhaps they are in Germany or Belgium, the countries from which they recently returned from Romania.
The attackers left the victim’s house with 16 luxury watches worth 200,000 euros.
The murdered businessman was 50 years old.
