The victim, Shawn Sisahai, died Monday after being stabbed in a vacant lot off a street in the city’s south.

“Two 12-year-old boys were arrested at their home addresses last night on suspicion of murder and remain in custody,” West Midlands Police said in a press release.

“We have increased patrols in the area as we understand this incident has caused serious concern in the local community,” the statement added.

The BBC quoted Chief Inspector Dave Sanders as saying the investigation was “progressing rapidly” and that the victim’s relatives were being kept informed as new information emerged.

“We continue to encourage anyone with information to contact us,” he added.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said its crews attended the scene on Monday and found Sisahai in a critical condition with serious injuries. Paramedics tried to save his life, but he died before he could be taken to hospital.

Police also said they are going door-to-door to try to get more information about the crime from residents and are reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

Forensic experts blocked the roads near the crime scene until the investigation was completed.
