USR leader Katelin Drula says that the public debate caused by Elena Lasconi’s statements in support of the traditional family has gone too far and “intruded too far into the private life of the family”. Katalin Drula had only one reaction to this whole scandal, at the weekend, when he asked Elena Lasconi to withdraw from the race for the European Parliament elections, which she did, because she was removed from the USR list, where she was the first. position.

On Friday, at a press conference held in USR Arad, he was asked how he responded to the criticism he had received, particularly from the party, following the removal of Elena Lasconi from the lists in the European Parliament elections, Drula said that, with his point of view, vision, subject is complete.

“I had a discussion with a colleague of mine last week who was generous enough to realize that she made this gesture of self-removal in a public debate that is likely to affect the party’s campaign for the European Parliament. In addition, I believe that the family’s private life has been invaded too much, and I think that everything should stop there,” said Drula, according to Agerpres.

Elena Lasconi, appointed just two weeks ago as the head of the USR list for next year’s European Parliament elections, said in an interview with Prima TV that she voted “YES” in the referendum on the traditional family in 2018. “I am a Christian, I am Orthodox and I believe that a family consists of a woman and a man,” Lasconi said.

Later, Elena Lasconi’s daughter, Oana, reacted sharply on Facebook and Instagram to her mother’s statements, the young woman expressed her disgust and announced that “this cruel discrimination” has no place in her family, and for this reason she no longer supports her mother in any way view.

The president of the party, Katalin Drula, reacted only once, asking Elena Lasconi to withdraw from the campaign.

“I had a discussion with Olena Lasconi and asked her to give up the campaign for the European Parliament. We decided tonight to convene the National Bureau of the EDRP to formalize this decision. I’m sure Elena understood that all the public discussion in the last 24 hours, along with a personal situation that became public, is affecting USR’s campaign and focus on fighting the PSD-PNL monster. Elena will continue to work in Kampalungen and will have the support to work in the administration,” the USR leader said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Drula also said that “the US faces a tough and important fight in 2024” and “today, more than ever, Romania needs a right-wing alternative and liberal solutions. In the face of corrupt government and extremist hysteria, we all need real change. We will continue to work day in and day out to create these changes.”

Later, in the press release of the UDR, it was reported that on Sunday evening, the National Bureau of the UDR took note of the removal of Olena Lasconi from the list of candidates for the European Parliament elections.
