An impressive phenomenon is visible on Sunday evening in the sky of Romania – a reddish aurora was immortalized in several areas of the country.
According to the specialized site AstroInfo, the phenomenon was reported by residents of several districts of the country.
“Aurora is now visible from Romania!!! The photos were taken a few minutes ago in the county of Timis… Reports and photos from several regions of the country: Timis, Bihor, Cluj, Caras-Severin, Bucharest, Giurgiu, Ialomica, Tulcea, etc.,” AstroInfo wrote on Facebook. .
“Aurora borealis in the sky of Romania; it could be observed and reported from all regions of the country…”, also stated on the Storms Romania – Forecasts, Warnings and Weather Analysis page.
This phenomenon was also reported this evening in other European countries, such as the Czech Republic, Hungary or the Republic of Moldova.
Experts say that this is an extremely rare situation – a phenomenon usually seen only from the northern regions, debraila.ro notes. Red auroras are rare and are formed by oxygen particles located at an altitude of more than 320 kilometers. Nitrogen molecules produce a blue or blue-violet aurora.
The aurora is an optical phenomenon that consists of an intense glow observed in the night sky in regions near the polar regions, as a result of the impact of solar wind particles on the Earth’s magnetic field. When it occurs in the Northern Hemisphere, the phenomenon is known as the Aurora Borealis.
In April, the aurora borealis could be seen in several European countries, in particular in Romania, writes News.ro. The impetus was a solar storm, the strongest in recent years.
