USR President Katalin Drula announces that he has asked Elena Lasconi, who heads the party’s list in the European Parliament elections, to withdraw from the campaign following the scandal caused by her claims about voting in the family referendum. “We decided to gather the National Office of the EDR tonight to formalize this decision,” says Drula.

“I had a discussion with Olena Lasconi and asked her to give up the campaign for the European Parliament. We decided tonight to convene the National Bureau of the EDRP to formalize this decision. I’m sure Elena understood that all the public discussion in the last 24 hours, along with a personal situation that became public, is affecting USR’s campaign and focus on fighting the PSD-PNL monster. Elena will continue to work in Campalungeni and will have support to work in the administration,” USR leader Cătălin Drula said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Drula also says that “the USR has a tough and important fight in 2024” and “today, more than ever, Romania needs a right-wing alternative and liberal solutions. In the face of corrupt government and extremist hysteria, we all need real change. We will continue to work day in and day out to create this change.”

Elena Lasconi, appointed just two weeks ago as the head of the USR list for next year’s European Parliament elections, said in an interview with Prima TV that she voted “YES” in the referendum on the traditional family in 2018. “I am a Christian, I am Orthodox and I believe that a family consists of a woman and a man,” Lasconi said.

Later, Elena Lasconi’s daughter, Oana, reacted sharply in a message on Instagram to her mother’s statements, the young woman expressed her disgust and announced that “this cruel discrimination” has no place in her family, and for this reason she no longer supports his mother. no way.

For these statements, Lasconi was also criticized by former USR colleagues who now work in REPER, as well as her party colleague Clotilde Armand.
