According to Christie’s auction house, cited by Reuters and Agerpres, the largest brilliant blue diamond (the highest degree of color intensity) with perfect internal clarity ever sold at auction could sell for $50 million.

Known as the ‘Bleu Royal’, this brilliant blue diamond set in the ring is one of the rarest gems of its kind ever found.

“What makes ‘Bleu Royal’ so special is its size. At 17.6 carats, it is the largest in its category,” Raoul Kadaquia, director of international jewelry at Christie’s, told Reuters.

“Its color is naturally very rich and has a flawless internal transparency,” he added.

The diamond is scheduled to be put up for sale at an auction of rare precious stones organized by Christie’s on November 7 in Geneva.

In 2016, Christie’s sold a rare 14.6 carat Oppenheimer Blue diamond for over $57 million.

“We hope it will surpass Oppenheimer,” Rahul Kadakia said of the Bleu Royal diamond.

“We’ve toured it around the world, in Asia, the United States and Europe, and there’s been a lot of interest from collectors around the world,” added the Christie’s specialist.
