The Israeli military confirmed it bombed the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, saying it killed a Hamas commander from the camp who it said was one of those responsible for the Palestinian movement’s October 7 attack on Israel, Sky News reported.

“His elimination was part of a large-scale operation against terrorists and terrorist infrastructure belonging to the Jabalia Central Battalion, which took control of civilian buildings in the Gaza Strip,” the army said, according to AFP.

The Israel Defense Forces released an image of a Hamas commander it said was killed in today’s attack.

Ibrahim Biari was reportedly killed in an explosion at the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza.

At least 47 bodies have been pulled from the rubble after a refugee camp was bombed.

Located north of Gaza City, the Jabalia camp bombed on Tuesday is the largest of the eight refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, the BBC writes. As of July 2023, the UN has registered more than 116,000 Palestinian refugees there.

Refugees began settling in the Jabalia camp after Israel declared independence in 1948. This is a densely populated area, which consists mainly of residential buildings. Jabalia has 26 schools in 16 buildings, a food distribution center, two health centers, a library and seven wells.

Together with the Shati Jabalia camp, it is located in the perimeter declared by Israel as an “evacuation zone”.
