The Arab-brokered resolution is non-binding but carries political weight, affecting the global temperature as Israel ramps up its ground operations in Gaza in response to Hamas’ most devastating attack on civilians in Israel’s 75-year history. October 7.

The resolution was adopted with 120 votes in favor, 45 abstentions and 14, including Israel and the United States, voting against.

Romania, along with the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Italy, as well as Germany and Great Britain, are among the 45 states that abstained from voting. Instead, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Croatia voted against, standing with the United States.

The General Assembly voted after the Security Council failed to act four times in the past two weeks. (News.ro)
