“This is a dark day for the UN and for humanity,” Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said, promising that his country would use “all means” to fight Hamas.

“Today is a day that will remain in shame. We have all witnessed that the UN no longer has an ounce of legitimacy or relevance,” he said.

Instead, Hamas said in a press release: “We welcome the UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and demand its immediate implementation to allow the delivery of fuel and humanitarian aid to civilians,” Le Monde reports.

On Friday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian truce between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas and demanding access to aid to the besieged Gaza Strip and the protection of civilians.

The Arab-brokered resolution is non-binding but carries political weight, affecting the global temperature as Israel ramps up its ground operations in Gaza in response to Hamas’ most devastating attack on civilians in Israel’s 75-year history. October 7.

The resolution was adopted with 120 votes in favor, 45 states abstained, and 14 – including Israel and the USA – voted against.

Romania, along with the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Italy, as well as Germany and Great Britain, are among the 45 states that abstained from voting. Instead, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Croatia voted against, standing with the United States.
