The Russian prosecutor’s office announced the opening of the first criminal case against Vasyl Stryakov, accused of preparing an assassination attempt on one of the most famous Russian propagandists, Volodymyr Solovyov, TASS reports.
“The indictment has been received, the materials have been handed over to the judge,” prosecutors said, noting that the case will be considered by the military court of the II Western District of Moscow.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation filed 6 charges against the man: illegal trafficking of weapons, illegal manufacture of weapons, illegal trafficking of explosives, illegal manufacture of explosives, participation in a terrorist organization, preparation for the murder of a person in connection with the performance of official activities.
Together with Striyakov, charges were announced against 5 other people whom the Russian authorities consider to be part of a neo-Nazi terrorist organization called National Socialism/White Power, which is banned in Russia.
What Russian prosecutors say about the attempt on Volodymyr Solovyov
All the accused are citizens of Russia, the prosecutor’s office also stated that all the accused were detained in connection with plans to kill Volodymyr Solovyov.
In the indictment drawn up by the prosecutor’s office, it is said that they planned to kill Solovyov in Moscow by blowing up his car, and after the crime they intended to flee abroad.
According to the indictment, Striyakov was previously convicted of accessory to murder and numerous attacks motivated by ethnic and racial enmity.
In 2012, he was found guilty of murder and disorderly conduct, but because he was a minor at the time of the crime, he was sent to a juvenile correctional facility for 10 years.
President Vladimir Putin himself announced in April of last year that the Russian authorities had prevented an assassination attempt on a “famous Russian TV journalist”, speaking at the time of a “conspiracy by the West”. Although Putin did not name Solovyov, Russian state news agencies later wrote that it was him.
Volodymyr Solovyov, an ardent supporter of “special operations” and Putin, is one of the Russian propagandists against whom the West imposed sanctions after the war in Ukraine began.
