This week, on the occasion of a joint meeting of the governments of Romania and Ukraine, Kyiv adopted a decision according to which the language of the Romanian minority in Ukraine is Romanian, and not “Moldovan”, as it was before. During a joint press conference with his Ukrainian colleague Denis Shigal, Marcel Cholaku thanked him for the decision.
In March 2023, the parliamentary majority of Chisinau, represented by the “Action and Solidarity” party, adopted a bill that replaced the phrase “Moldovan language” with “Romanian language” in the Constitution and in all legislative acts. President Maia Sandu promulgated the law.
