Health Minister Alexandru Rafila claims that the draft law on the legalization of medical cannabis “had a vicious component”. He says that while it was publicly stated that it was for cancer patients, it actually made room for anything, including “heartache.”
Rafila clarified that in the memorandum on the justification of the legislative project, all types of pain that must be treated with the use of cannabis were indicated.
“But what was written there left me speechless. So, firstly, the memorandum dealt with different types of pain that were to be treated with cannabis. There were all sorts of pains and mental pains that also had to be treated with cannabis, toothaches, menstrual pains, headaches, malaise. So every possible pain had to be treated with cannabis, and what’s more, we had to create a cannabis agency under the Ministry of Health that was responsible for the cultivation, processing and distribution of cannabis. We don’t understand this issue, and you understand that it was a long way from the demagogic approach of protecting cancer patients or, please, supporting cancer patients here to treat any pain that may arise during the day with cannabis.” of the Minister of Health, quoted by news.ro.
He added that this approach is not supported by the Ministry of Health.
An explanatory note to the legislative draft listed the results of studies on the effects of cannabis use on diseases such as cancer, HIV, multiple sclerosis, and depression or anxiety. The motives can be found HERE
